Domaine du Closel

Domaine du Closel bevindt zich op het landgoed van Château des Vaults, dat dateert uit 1495. In 1962 erfde Michèle de Jessy het land van haar kinderloze tante Madame du Closel. Hier begonnen Michèle en echtgenoot Jacques Domaine du Closel. In 2001 werd het domein overgedragen aan dochter Evelyne de Pontbriand, die na een carrière als lerares franse literatuur, zich volledig stortte op de wijnbouw. Het domein is in het bezit van de beste percelen van Savennières: Les Caillardières en Clos du Papillon. Grootste deel van het areaal ligt op de westelijke heuvel van Savennières. Evelyne, als groot natuurliefhebber, heeft zich uitgebreid verdiept in de biodynamische landbouw en bestudeerde de cycli van alle natuur op het domein. Deze holistische benadering en de hulp van onder meer geologiste Valerie Closset, die de bodemsamenstelling in kaart heeft gebracht en de beroemde biologische kweker Lilian Berillon die materiaal aanleverde voor nieuwe aanplant, resulteert in spatzuivere, zeer complexe Savennières met een geheel eigen signatuur.

Domaine du Closel is located on the estate of Château des Vaults, which dates back to 1495. In 1962 Michèle de Jessy inherited the land of her childless aunt Madame du Closel. Michèle and husband Jacques turned the estate into Domaine du Closel. In 2001 daughter Evelyne de Pontbriand took over the domaine after a career teaching french literature and decided to dedicate herself entirely to viticulture. The domaine owns the best plots in Savennières: Les Caillardières and Clos du Papillon. Biggest part of the acreage is situated on Savennières’ western slope. Evelyne, a great lover of nature, has studied extensively biodynamic viticulture and researched the cycli of all nature present on the estate. This holistic approach and the help of amongst others geologist Valerie Closset, who has mapped the soilcompositions and the famous organic nursery gardener Lilian Berillon, who provided the material for the new plantations have resulted in crystal clear, very complex Savennières with a unique characteristic signature.
